Sam Willits, Founder of Spartanics

Sam Willits, one of the founders of Spartanics in 1963, passed away last month missing the company’s 50th Anniversary by less than a year!

Sam a graduate of the University of MI, served as a Navy officer during WWII, and co-founded the Lutheran Church of the Atonement in his town. Sam was a creative engineer and inventor with over a hundred patents. He was the Director of R&D at Chicago Aerial Industries when he left the company in 1960 with the focus on designing products using optical solutions. Joined by a college classmate their first machine shop was in Sparta, WI and there began Spartanics. Spartanics first product was the Registration Shear which many of Spartanics first customers are still using. Many products followed.

Sam at 87 was still working part time helping with R&D here or at his winter home in Marco Island, FL.  If you knew Sam you knew he was generous, a great optimist, and loved his Lord, family and friends. He will be greatly missed by us all here at Spartanics.
